ABOUT US

As a community of Christ-followers, we seek to live according to His teaching – to be shaped by the Good News He preached. We don’t always get it right, and we may let each other down, but that’s how we learn to forgive. We’re not perfect yet! HOWEVER ….. we seek to follow Him and be shaped by the Gospel.

Pastor

Until December 2022, Rev. Ian Dickie was pastor of Granton Baptist. Ian has moved to Largs to take up a new pastorate, and we have embarked upon the exciting journey of finding a new pastor. We are excited about all that God seeks to do in the next stage of our journey. Watch this space!

Leadership

Working with the Pastor there are four Deacons who have a dual elder/deacon role, dealing with the spiritual and practical as they oversee the work of the church.

Group leadership

The church is overseen by a number of groups shaping discipleship, mission, fellowship, worship, and so on. These are led by gifted people who seek to discern the direction God is leading the church.

The Church listening to God

The ultimate authority in our church is the gathered community of believers. We encourage each person to commit to membership in the church. This enables that person to contribute ideas, perceptions, questions, and their own vision for where the church should go.

WHAT IS A BAPTIST CHURCH?

We are part The Baptist Union of Scotland which is a network of about 160 churches throughout Scotland.  We recognise that if we are to fulfil the commission Jesus has given his disciples, it is better to work together than alone. The Baptist Union is a relational network which gives mutual support.

The current priorities of the Baptist Union are:

  • Transformations – seeking the transforming work of Christ in all we do.

  • Generations – ensuring all generations, and especially younger generations, are equipped and released in their God-given calling.

  • Innovations – daring to develop new ways of being church that will reach people who may not have any church experience or understanding of the gospel.

The vision around which we gather is our Declaration of Principle, which states:

  1. That the Lord Jesus Christ our God and Saviour is the sole and absolute Authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each Church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws.

  2. That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried and rose again the third day.

  3. That it is the duty of every disciple to bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world.
