GOING DEEPER
We are all learners. In fact the followers of Jesus were called “disciples”. The noun disciple comes from the Latin word discipulus, which means “student, learner, or follower.” We never cease to be disciples.
Courses available. We have a number of courses that we run from time to time. There are courses that teach people different ways to pray. There are courses to help people grow as disciples. There are courses to help people answer the difficult question that they are asked from time to time. There are general courses that teach all aspects of the christian faith: How to read the Bible, how to pray, how to share your faith, what is communion… and so on. You do not need to be an academic to take part in these. They are mostly informal discussion. No question is out of bounds. We usually learn from each other, so your life expereience may help others.
Homegroups. We have discussion groups that meet each week in people’s homes. They are great opportunities to get to know people in church in a way that might not be possible on a Sunday morning. Of course, they are not just for discussion, but we also pray, and organise different social events. Some folk also get involved in working with the Care Van – feeding the homeless in Edinburgh. Homegroups are little communities where we share our lives together.
